PAFSO 2014 Photo Contest

14 April 2014

Dear PAFSO Members,

After a one-year recess in 2013 due to our job action campaign, the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) is pleased to revive a tradition by inviting you to participate in the fourth annual PAFSO Photo Contest.

This year, the contest innovates by featuring two categories under which you may participate. Like in previous editions of our annual photo contest, one of the themes will be “The World through Canadian Eyes”. This category will showcase compelling photographs taken all around the world. In addition, this year, in order to depict the professional reality of Foreign Service Officers, we are adding a second category: “Foreign Service Officers: Canada’s Front Line Abroad”. This theme is work-oriented and aims at showcasing FS successes, the hazards and challenges we face and the value we bring to Canadians.

Winning entries will be displayed at the PAFSO Awards Dinner on June 12, and some will be featured in a future edition of bout de papier, as well as in the 2015 PAFSO calendar.

Guidelines: Photographs submitted should capture the exciting and at times challenging aspects of our lives as FS at home or abroad. Judges will select the winning entries in light of their respect with the themes of the contest, creativity, composition and visual impact.

Eligibility: The contest is open to all PAFSO Members. Spouses and dependents are welcome to contribute, but photographs need to be submitted under a member’s name. There is a limit of three entries per member. Submissions must be original images and not have been previously published. Please include your full name and the theme category reference (Canadian Eyes or Front Line Abroad) in each image file name.

Submission Deadline: All entries must be received by Friday, May 23, 2014. Please note that this is a firm deadline owing to the proximity of the PAFSO Awards Dinner.

How to Enter: Upload your photos at: https://www.pafso.com/pafso_photo_contest.php Images should be submitted in JPEG (at high quality) or TIFF format. For optimal publication, minimum 5 megapixel or 300 dpi resolution is recommended. (3 uploads per entry/no larger than 15 Mb per image)

Image Modifications: Minor digital enhancement is permitted, but images that have been significantly modified will not be accepted.

Terms and Conditions: PAFSO reserves full usage rights indefinitely of all entries for use in PAFSO promotional material, bout de papier and indefinite display on the PAFSO website. By entering the photo contest, you grant PAFSO the non-exclusive right to publish, use, distribute, reproduce and publicly display your photograph, and to create derivative works from your photograph, in perpetuity, in any of its on-line, print or other media publications, materials or exhibitions, for purposes of promoting PAFSO, without payment of compensation unless prohibited by law. Photos will be credited to the photographer. Subject to the rights granted to PAFSO, you retain all other copyrights and rights to future use of the photographs you enter into the contest.

We look forward to receiving your entries!
