Update on the Nominations for the Office of President / March 1, 2020

UPDATE

NOMINATIONS FOR THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT
ARE FURTHER EXTENDED

In accordance with Section 8 (g) of the Constitution of the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers, as only a single nomination has been received, the nominations for the office of President are further extended by seven (7) days until March 7, 2022.

Interested candidates must submit a statement outlining their qualifications and intentions and provide the endorsement of ten (10) regular PAFSO members in good standing via the following nomination form. Nomination forms must be returned to the PAFSO office by mail (Nominations, PAFSO, 412 – 47 Clarence Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 9K1) or electronically (info@pafso-apase.com) before 23:59 EST Monday, March 7, 2022.

As mentioned above, a single nomination was put forward for Pamela Isfeld. Ms. Isfeld’s submitted nomination, supported by ten (10) members in good standing, lists her qualifications and intentions as follows:

My time as your president, combined with my six hardship assignments and eighteen years of management and leadership, have given me the experience, qualifications, networks, and empathy to promote and protect your interests.

Some of my key accomplishments include:

  • Delivering PAFSO’s first “living” CBA in decades, with a strong economic increase.
  • Establishing our first health and safety clause, which protects you during the pandemic and beyond.
  • Securing fair and appropriate treatment for members on vaccinations, remote work arrangements, leave, and other issues through the National Joint Council’s Covid-19 Task Force.
  • Negotiating for additional Covid-related support outside the FSDs such as funding for mandatory quarantine.
  • Establishing a clear, transparent guiding vision through the first Strategic Review and Strategic Plan.
  • Improving governance, through the full-time presidency, remote memberships on ExCom, management accountability, and modernized financial practices, etc.
  • Increasing member engagement and communication, through crisis communications, bi-weekly messaging, virtual breakfasts and Tradecraft Week.
  • Creating the Randy Orr Memorial Award.

If re-elected, I will fight for a comprehensive re-think of the FSDs to capture the lessons learned during the pandemic. Your concerns about economic well-being and the erosion of support for members abroad will be my priorities in the next CBA negotiations. I am also committed to further enhancing our DEI and strategic advocacy/communications efforts.

After my three years as your full-time president, PAFSO is well-positioned for the future challenges facing the FS community. However, strategic, experienced, visionary leadership will be essential to getting you the respect and recognition you deserve. I hope you will continue to trust me to promote and protect your interests.

Over the course of the next seven (7) days, the Nominations and Elections Committee shall conduct outreach activities among the membership in order to identify additional candidates. Should no other candidate come forward during this period, the current single nominee shall be acclaimed to the office of President.
