PAFSO Announcement – Election of President

The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) is pleased to announce the election of Mr. Timothy Hodges as President of the Association effective July 17, 2014.

A career diplomat, Mr. Hodges has an extensive track record working with multilateral institutions including in the UN General Assembly, G8, WTO, APEC, the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, UN FAO, UNESCO, OECD, Organization of American States, and NAFTA. Mr. Hodges’s most recent posting was to Washington, D.C., where he was Economic Counsellor and, in turn, Head of the Canadian Embassy’s Environment and Fisheries Section. In 2006, he was unanimously elected Co-Chair of the intergovernmental negotiating committee for the United Nations treaty on Access and Benefit-sharing of Genetic Resources. Following adoption of the treaty at Nagoya in 2010, Mr. Hodges returned to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, where he joined the Policy Staff as Senior Advisor. He holds a BA Honours (History and English Literature) from Carleton University.

Mr. Hodges was first elected to the PAFSO Executive Committee in 2012, where he has served as Vice-chair (Political and Economic Stream) and as Chair of the Human Resources Policy Sub-committee. He succeeds Tim Edwards who has served as President of PAFSO since October 2011.
