Did you know that PAFSO’s Group Life Insurance Program is tailored to meet the unique needs of the Canada’s professional Foreign Service.Below you’ll find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions members have had concerning PAFSO’s Group Life Insurance Program.

Yes! Staring January 1 this year, there has been a 5% premium rate reduction for all PAFSO Group Life Insurance plans. It’s proof of our commitment to keeping our insurance program competitive and affordable for you.

All dues-paying active members of PAFSO are eligible to join our program, specifically designed to provide quality protection tailored to the individual needs of Foreign Service officers. Simply contact the Plan Administrator, Marty Johnston, by telephone at (613) 241-4396 #225 or by email at marty.johnston@pafso.com.

You may purchase up to $150,000 of basic term life without evidence of insurability, provided you apply within 60 days of first becoming a dues-paying member of PAFSO. Members can apply for the life insurance program if they are overseas with electronic forms

The PAFSO Life Insurance Plan uses an age bracket to determine premiums for members. Every 5 years after age 35, premiums automatically increase the month after your birthday.

Are you paying smoking life insurance premium rates? If you quit smoking cigarettes more than 12 months ago, check with us to see if you qualify for our less expensive non-smoker rates.

For those of our members returning to Canada and those who are leaving Canada, remember that Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec have both added a Retail Sales Tax (8% in Ontario, 7% in Manitoba and 9% in Quebec) on all insurance premiums. As those members residing outside of Canada are not deemed residents of either province, taxes are removed from your premiums.

When signing up for life insurance, a pre-authorized debit plan is setup with Plan Administrator and the Finance Officer. If you need to update banking information regarding your premiums, please contact the Plan Administrator or the Finance Officer at finance@pafso-apase.com.

At retirement, or when you turn 65, your benefits are reduced to a maximum of $50,000per benefit. You may maintain your PAFSO life insurance coverage up to a maximum of $50,000 for each benefit up to age 70, provided you are a dues-paying member of PAFSO.

If you transfer to another government department or leave the federal government, you may keep all of your insurance coverage provided you pay your PAFSO insurance premiums and dues by the pre-authorized debit plan. You would become an Affiliate Member if you were retired or an Associate Member if you are still working.
