As the President of the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) and on behalf of the PAFSO Executive Committee (EXCOM), the PAFSO office staff, and FS Group colleagues, I am very pleased to welcome the members of the new International Assistance (IA) Stream to our association. We look forward to working with this dedicated and dynamic group to further our shared interests, to promote and protect our shared profession, and to raise awareness of the value of an effective foreign service to Canada.
In the year since the Employer announced its intention to re-establish an International Assistance stream in the FS Group, PAFSO has participated in a number of meetings on the subject. In addition to our discussions with the management of Global Affairs Canada, we also held focus groups with future IA colleagues as part of our ongoing Strategic Review. We have already extended PAFSO’s services to our new members, and have begun to assist with a number of labour relations issues related to the transition.
Now that formal Notices of Appointment have been issued, we welcome those IA officers listed there to consider serving in one of the two IA stream positions on our Executive Committee and plan to attend our Annual General Meeting in the Cadieux Auditorium at 125 Sussex Drive at 1600 on 23 October. (Details, including the nomination form, can be found here.) We are also planning in-person and online events to welcome you to our professional community, and will provide details soon.
I encourage IA members to consult this website for more information about our PAFSO community, including a list of our staff and the services we provide. Please also send your contact details to firstname.lastname@example.org, and make sure to register to the members’ portal of our website in order to begin receiving important updates and notices of our events and activities.
